Members of SEA’s advanced circus class were joined by local kids for the intensive acrobatic workshops. Students got their two-highs down pat, were rockin’ with the swingin’ baskets, literally throwing each other through the air and taken back to their childhood games like wizzy dizzies.

Drama Workshops – March 2013

Meyerhold’s Biomechanics
Biomechanics
is an approach to actor training and to theatre developed by Russian actor, director and teacher, Vsevolod Meyerhold during the 1920’ and 1930’s.

The technique works on the integration between “purely” physical training and the application of that physical work to concerns specific to acting. The purpose of the training is to “teach the body to think” by forging a connection between the mind and the body thus increasing awareness of the relationship of the inner movement, the space and the other actors in the ensemble.
The course addresses the fundamental principles of acting such as concentration; awareness of self, of one’s partner, and of the space; listening; give and take; and moment-to-moment life in a scene

Ralf Rauker, German actor, director, lecturer and researcher, studied acting at the University of Arts, Berlin and received a two-year scholarship for particularly gifted students. He specialised on the psycho/physical actor’s training Meyerhold’s Biomechanics with Gennadi Bogdanow from Moscow (1991 – ’96), worked with Jerzy Grotowski in 1985/87 and with Eugenio Barba and the International School of Theatre Anthropology in 1995/96. He has directed and devised more than 20 performances since 1995 and lectured in theatre and performance in Europe, South America, Asia and Australia.
