The focus of circus at SEA is to encourage multi-skilled students with strength and confidence in many circus areas. Team skills and trust are important skills developed in all circus classes. Multiple circus skills are taught including acro-balance, juggling, unicycle, stilts, climbing, balances, handstands, tumbling, hoola-hooping, mini-trampoline, sliding-table, aerials plus more!
Senior students can choose their own speciality and focus within our circus classes, as well as working towards being invited to join the performing Circus Troupe ‘CircaSEA presented by Act-Belong-Commit’. We also offer specialised aerial classes.
SEA’s graduates have successfully attended NICA – the National Institute of Circus Arts in Melbourne. Skills required to successfully audition for those courses were attained here at SEA by integrating circus, dance and drama training.
Entry into our Circus program begins in Little Squircus (2-4yrs), Smircus (5-7yrs), Circus under 10s (8-10yrs), and Circus 10yrs+. Movement games, basic circus skills, fitness and flexibility are all part of the fun of circus.
Students are invited into the circus stream (Big Top classes) as they progress in ability, knowledge and attitude. Through the Big Top progression, students improve their general circus skills in acrobatics, handstands, tumbling, mini-trampoline, trapeze, and acro-balance, amongst others. These classes feed into the performing Circus Troupe, CircaSEA.
The Aerial program is open to all students who are interested in learning how to fly through the air! Social aerials is the beginner level for students aged 8yrs+ who learn the basics of trapeze, silks, and core skills of being an aerialist. Aerial arts is our intermediate level for members who have been participating in aerials at SEA for at least 1 year or show impressive potential. The advanced class, Aerials for Performance is the senior class where students train skills and work of act development for performances.
